Dear Hauties,
During winter, your coat pretty much makes up your entire outfit and when you live in a place where it’s cold most of the year—Copenhagen and New York City in my case—it’s essential to have a good coat collection at hand. At least if you ask me.
The majority of my own coat collection consists of oversized, elongated, and boxy silhouettes. I’ve always had a weak spot for a good, oversized coat; they look good, they’re easy to style and they always add a dash of je-ne-sais-quois to your look. So, today, I wanna guide you through some my most worn oversized coats this season.
#1. Black shearling Afghan coat
The Afghan coat is probably known to most people as a “Penny Lane“ coat, but it originated from Ghazni province in Afghanistan. The beige-brownish Afghan coat with embroidered florals has become somewhat of a classic now, but I prefer a plain, black coat with no embroidery.
I thrifted the Afghan coat I’m wearing in the photo above in New Jersey at a MyUnique Thrift for $24.99. I bought it as a stand-in for the Afghan coat from the Gucci F/W 1999 collection that I have been drooling over for years now. That coat is currently available on Grailed for $1250 and on eBay for $1,698. I also found the shorter version on Vestiaire Collective for $1,831.50. So until I feel comfortable enough dropping that amount of cash on a coat, I’ll stick to this one. 🫠
#2. Brown wool coat
This is probably my most worn coat to date. I thrifted it when I was studying abroad in Berkeley back in 2020 and it’s been a solid winter staple in my wardrobe ever since. I’ve actually worn it to the point that the lining looks like Tarzan’s loincloth. So, it might be time to look for a replacement soon.
#3. Dark green barn coat
I got this coat as a hand me down from one of my best friends. Like the before mentioned coat, this piece is also one of my most treasured wardrobe items. I also saw classic green barn coats featured in the Prada S/S 2024 collection and in the Fendi F/W 2024 men’s wear collection. So, I hope they’re gonna be more prevalent in the fashionsphere in the next coming seasons.
That’s all for now. See you next Sunday!
