Dear Hauties!!
It’s the last Sunday of February which means it’s time for another round-up on the newsletter. Today, I present to you:
A Chloë Sevigny style break-down and a new app to organize your wardrobe 〰️
A Williamsburg vintage store with a selection of vintage Gucci loafers, Levi’s 501 jeans, and distressed graphic tees as well as a cozy, nearby date night bar 〰️
10 vintage Chanel bags priced between $299-$699 〰️
💭 HYPED ABOUT…
💌 is now on Substack: @themillennialdecorator on Instagram recently posted her first newsletter on Substack. I think she has immaculate taste and attention to detail so I would highly recommend checking her out!
🎙️ Vogue did an interview with Chloë Sevigny: Here’s a cute little interview Vogue did with Chloë Sevigny in which they highlight some of Sevigny’s most iconic style moments. I love Chloë Sevigny and I love this video.
🎀 Jean Paul Gaultier S/S 2024 Couture Collection: It’s not often I find that Haute Couture resonates or inspires me on a deeper level than what to wear or how to pair colors, fabrics, and silhouettes. But, when I watched the Jean-Paul Gaultier S/S 2024 Couture Collection, I felt as if Simone Rocha had done a deep dive into the archives of my brain that I had completely forgotten existed. I see so, so many references style references from things I used to love and they were all brought back to the surface all thanks to miss Rocha.
📱 Indyx’ wardrobe cataloging app: Not only does it archive your stuff, there’s also a style guide in there. It gave me the above prognosis as my three words (edgy, minimalist, and maximalist). When I used Bornstein’s method myself, I landed on edgy, eclectic, and effortless. Needless to say, I can definitely see why I got those specific three words.
🗽 AROUND THE BLOCK…
🛒 Chickee’s Vintage: If beat-up band tees, vintage Tom Ford-era Gucci loafers, and Levi’s 501 jeans are your thing, you should pay Chickee’s Vintage in Williamsburg a visit. They’re located on 135 Wythe Avenue, two blocks down (ish) from Bedford Avenue.
🍸 Bar Blondeau: When you’re done shopping, stop by the Wythe Hotel and head up to the sixth floor. Here, you can sip on a schmancy drink with a full view of the Manhattan skyline in the glowing atmosphere of Bar Blondeau. It’s on the pricier side, but it’s one of my favorite bars in Brooklyn.
🖥️ USEFUL READS…
The Real Dupes on
writes an insightful piece on the dynamics between popular culture and mass culture in the digital age. This newsletter is a thought-provoking piece shedding light on how culture evolves over time, in the context of fashion trends, and who really holds the creative rein in society. I highly recommend giving it a read! How Are People Affording Fashion? on
I LOVE this piece.
writes about this idea that everyone online seems to be able to afford buying luxury fashion (and how buying these items on a regular basis just appears to be the most normal thing ever). She also gives a few tips on how to find luxury fashion that you are able to afford yourself. Go give it a read! The Complexity of Personal Style on
writes about personal style, arguing that some of the online content about discovering your personal style is a little too rigid these days. What really stuck out to me was this paragraph:And you know what, this is controversial: not everyone has exemplary style and nor should they. And that’s okay. I don’t like a lot of people’s style out there nowadays, but at least it ignites a feeling. Most of the time I’m just indifferent, which is a much worse reaction because it’s bland. Someone wearing vintage Levi’s, a Uniqlo T-shirt and a trenchcoat doing affiliate links does not good style make, even with Bornstein or Smilovic’s help.
I think this is a great take and one I very much agree with. Go give it a read and let me know your thoughts on the subject!
📌 TO-DO…
Sort through your wardrobe 👇
As I mentioned, I’ve been pretty obsessed with Indyx the past few weeks. I used Allison Bornstein’s guide to clear out my wardrobe as I was listing my clothes on Indyx. To recap, these are the steps she suggests:
Step 1: Define your regulars
These pieces don’t necessarily reflect what we want to wear, but they’re ultimately the clothes we regularly reach for when we’re getting dressed.Step 2: Divide the rest into three piles
The remaining clothes, shoes, and accessories are sectioned into three piles:The never-pile → In pile one, we dump the clothes we want to donate.
The not-now-pile → Pile two is for all the clothes you aren’t sure about or can’t part ways with yet. Store this pile away in a suitcase for later and decide on what to do with them at a later point.
The how-pile → Last pile is for the clothes you love, but don’t know how to style.
Step 3: Organize your regulars and how-pile: Last step is to reorganize your closet so that it only consists of the clothes you decided to keep and the clothes you don’t know how to style.
After following these steps, your wardrobe consists of items you genuinely love. I did some slight moderations by adding a selling pile for the clothes I wanted to sell or consign and a repair pile for all the stuff that needed repairing. 🧵
